Missionaries Threatened and Believers Ostracised in North Bihar for the Faith

GEMS missionaries and believers of Boriya (PEACE 3 Zone) and Manigachi (Maithili Zone) are constantly threatened for believing and preaching Jesus.

Boriya – Continuously Threatened
A group of fanatics affiliated to the Sangh gathered together on 1st February 2018 and threatened Bro. Susheel Kumar who is serving at Boriya in West Champaran.

He and his wife Sis. Chandra are missionaries here. Since then they are receiving continuous threatening from this group to leave the place and to not preach the gospel.

Pray for the opposition in this place. Also pray for the construction of the church at Bagaha (PEACE 3 Zone).

Manigachi – Christians Ostracized
On 4th February 2018 right after the worship service the Mukhiya (Village Headman) of Mahadev Pokhar a village in Manigachi came to the church along with eight other men & media and threatened the missionaries and falsely accused them of converting through allurement of money.

For three hours the missionaries and Christian believers were forcefully detained. The opposers called for the police and the missionaries and believers were taken to the police station. In front of the police, the Mukhiya threatened the believers that they are set apart from the village for believing in Jesus and that all facilities will be denied for them; the police were a witness to this and did not take action against the Mukhiya or promise protection for the Christians.

On 5th February newspaper Dainik Jagran published a false news on this incident in the title ‘Conversion in the name of Prayer’.

The translation of the news –
Manigachi (Darbhanga): Six Christians who went to Kanchar Tola of Mahadev Pokhar (Chanaur Panchayat) to convert people in the name of prayer had to face strong opposition. Later everyone returned.
It is being reported that on Sunday in secrecy people were being inspired to convert here. Some villagers who passed doubted and began to enquire. Later crowd gathered who began to oppose. Mukhiya Madan Kumar Yadav informed the police and he himself reached and he calmed the people. The police took the people who had come to covert to the police station. After investigation they were left. SHO Rajiv Kumar said that no one complained on forceful conversion. So they were left after enquiry.
For three years there has been attempt to convert. In this activity Pastor Lakhan Besra s/o Kalu Besra of Ratanpura, Katihar & his wife Elizabeth, Paul of Tamil Nadu a staff of Gospel Missionary Society based in Dehri On Sone & his wife Kripa Paul, Susari Murmu & her husband were involved. Kanjar Tola’s Gulbiya Devi, Photo Kanjar, Gopal Kanjar, Konua Kanjar, Rajkumar Kanjar have been converted. Everyone had gathered here on Sunday. Pastor Lakhan Besra, Susari Murmu and her husband are residing at the house of Indu Chaudhary in Manigachi for three years are active in this kind of work.

Traditionally the Kanjar people have taken onto robbery and/or begging for their livelihood. But the love of Jesus and the power of the gospel is transforming them to become good citizens; and they are now educating their children and doing other jobs.

Prayfor the opposition to the gospel, the missionaries and believers in Boriya & Manigachi in North Bihar.
Prayfor the believers to be strong in the faith and to grow in the Lord and His word.
Prayfor the opposers to be delivered from all bondages and to personally experience the power of the gospel.

Prayfor the police, administration and media to work unbiased and for justice.

Believers of Balumath Church Badly Beaten and Continuously Persecuted in Jharkhand

The believers of GEMS church at Balumath who come from Chakla village were badly beaten for resisting Ghar Wapsi.

Twenty families from Paduwa Tola of Chakla village are believers who come to the GEMS church at Balumath. On 20thDecember 2017 the Sangh affiliates organized a Ghar Wapsi (forced conversion) and five families succumbed to it.

The rest of the families resisted; so the Sangh affiliates organized one more Ghar Wapsi on 9th January 2018 and all the families resisted it again. So on 10th January the Sangh members instigated the Sarna Samithimembers and bet the resisted believers very badly. Bro. Philip Tirkey, the missionary pastor of Balumath and Bro. Santhappan, Zonal Superintendent of PEACE 1 Zone encouraged the believers and accommodated them at Bro. Santhappan’s house that night.

Chakla village comes under Chandwa police station and when the believers went and complained, the police called those who bet them and pushed for compromise. But when the believers persisted and went along with the Mukhiya of the village on 13th January the Sub-Inspector Prabhakar Munda filed FIR against the perpetrators.

The newspapers have published a false report that the Christian believers of Paduva Tola are converting the people by alluring them. (Below is the news published on 13th Jan 2018 in Jagran.)

There has been continuous persecution of believers of Balumath –

Balumath church believers have been continuously attacked and persecuted.
Praythat the believers may stand strong and steadfast in the faith.
Pray for the believers from Chakla village to continue to grow in the Lord.
Prayfor the opposers to know the love of Jesus and to come to Christ.

GEMS Leadership Training Centre and Course Inaugurated in Bihar

Leadership Training Centre (LTC) was inaugurated at Sikaria, Bihar for the glory of God to train indigenous & cross cultural GEMS missionaries inand for leadership.

The inauguration of the Leadership Training Centre was held at Timothy Bible College in Sikaria, Bihar on 5thJanuary 2018.

The program began with prayer by Sis. Rupalekha Jebakumar (Managing Trustee). The participants were led in praise & worship by Bro. Bell Shath (Revival Ministries Coordinator).

Bro. Paul Bance (Training Coordinator) anchored the program and asked Bro. Rakesh (Associate Director-CP) to pray for Bro. Christopher who is given the leadership responsibility of LTC. Bro. Paul presented the structure of LTC that it will be a three months’ residential course with two months’ gap between every month in which the missionaries will go to their fields. 15 Area Leaders & 5 Department Heads of GEMS will be taken in every batch and along with them there will be room for leaders from other organizations who will be recommended by Hi-CHAL (Hindi Churches Alliance).
Bro. Anand (Associate Director-Institutions) and Bro. Cornelius (Zonal Superintendent, B1) prayed for this course and for the participants.

The General Secretary Bro. D. Augustine Jebakumar shared about the void of leadership and the need for it. He also mentioned about Dr. Rajendran’s (Ex-General Secretary, IMA) writing in IMA’s 40thyear souvenir appreciating GEMS for its on-the-job training. He also mentioned about GEMS’ future plans to start an online course & the upcoming leadership training centre for Women. A gist of the message that he shared –

Without a leader there will not be any Voice or Goal or Direction. Leadership teaching & training of GEMS should be based on the Word of God. And the aim should be to enable the leaders to listen to the God’s voice. During Elijah’s time God did not send him to the prophetical colleges of Bethel & Carmel to choose the successor, but to the field, to a farmer Elisha! We need intellectuals like Paul and fishermen like Peter; but both listened to the voice of God.

In Moses & Joshua and in Elijah & Elisha mentorship we see that along with people’s acceptance and more than that God’s divine approval is essential (Numbers 27:15-19; 2 Kings 2:14,15). In the team of Paul & Barnabas we see Paul proving his calling through God’s guidance (Acts 13). Even though Nehemiah came from the palace, he could work with difficult & corrupt people because God stirred their hearts, as a sign of divine approval.

The candidates of the first batch were asked to come forward and as the leaders laid their hands upon them Bro. K. Gunasekaran (Director, Hi-CHAL) prayed for them. Bro. Christopher thanked everyone for participating and Bro. T. Emerson (Executive Director) closed the inauguration ceremony with prayer.

Prayfor the Leadership Training Centre of GEMS that it would train the mission leaders to be God’s voice for the church & the nation.
Pray for all the tutors to receive fresh inspiration & anointing to train according to God’s direction.
Pray for this course to instil & propel the leadership to fulfil the needed purposes of God for this time.
